The Blackbrow bleak is Native the Kura and the Aras Rivers and their tributaries in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran and Russia. It has also been introduced to Iraq. It reaches a maximum size of 25 cm. It is a freshwater benthopelagic fish inhabiting rivers and streams ranging in temperature from 10°C - 20°C.
It has recently become an invasive exotic fish throughout the united states.
